If your email reader
doesn't accept the formatting of this newsletter, you can see it online at Scab Scab scouting has found a few lesions here and there, but suppression at orchards across the state overall seems to be very good considering the spring weather. Flyspeck After consultation with Dr. David Rosenberger of Cornell University, I have updated the Orchard Radar flyspeck fungicide depletion, respray, and latest safe harvest date estimates. The new guidelines are explained at http://pronewengland.org/content/AllModels/FlyspeckBackground.htm
Insects & Mites At Highmoor Farm, the plum curculio control window is forecast to end Wednesday June 29. Full dose insecticide applied on or since June 16 should last long enough to provide control through that date, after which subsequent insecticide coverage against plum curculio should no longer be necessary as there has been enough activity of the population for them to have been killed by previous sprays.
Insecticide applications for plum curculio usually take care of codling moth too. But for organic growers, the time for focused applications against codling moth is here with egg hatch already well underway.
Sincerely, Glen |
