In 2004 Pest Management Staff scouted 11 greenhouse operations (or selected parts of a few of the larger operations) every other week in the Spring IPM Program for Greenhouse Plants.  Sites were located in Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Penobscot, and Somerset counties and site selection was based largely on geography.  We also tried to include operations of a wide range of sizes, including two organic greenhouses.  The program ran through the first week of June of 2004.  We also had a greenhouse ride-along program in which people accompanied the scout and obtained hands-on training scouting cooperating greenhouses.  Site visits to other greenhouse operations were made whenever possible.

The Maine Poinsettia IPM Program ran from September to December of 2004.  Staff from the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Pest Management Office scouted the greenhouses of selected Maine growers every other week free of charge.  The growers agreed to provide scouting materials (i.e. sticky cards) and scout the houses the weeks that the University scout was not present.  Six growers from Cumberland, Kennebec, Penobscot, and Somerset counties participated.

We strongly encourage Maine growers to contact us if you are having pest problems in your greenhouses OR to let us know the efficacy of control measures that you have used.
