Question: What is IPM?

Natural enemies like this jumping spider are a very important component of IPM.

IPM stands for Integrated Pest Management.  A somewhat simple definition of IPM is that it is a sustainable approach to managing pests by combining biological, cultural, physical and chemical tools in a way that minimizes economic, health, and environmental risks. The Northeastern IPM Center provides a more elaborate definition of IPM (link to their definition). One can also find a detailed explanation of what IPM is at the following address: http://pronewengland.org/INFO/PROpubs/PROINfoIPM-definition.htm
