Insect Situation
Lily leaf beetles are active in southern and central Maine now. Swarms of winged carpenter ants have been observed in north central Maine. Deer and dog ticks are being found. Spindle galls are forming on still-expanding cherry leaves. Eastern tent caterpillar nests are rapidly enlarging in branch crotches of apple and cherry.
Black flies are out in force and biting in certain locations in southern Maine. Early caddis are flying over southern and coastal Maine rivers. Early mayflies are beginning to emerge.
